Why Jewelry Appraisers are not all alike...

Jewelry Appraisers are not licensed. Anyone can call themselves a jewelry appraiser.

When choosing an appraiser ask the following questions. The answers you receive should gain your confidence and trust.

1. Are you a gemologist?
The most recognized gemology credential in this country is the Gemological Institute of America's Graduate Gemologist (GG) title.

2. Did you complete formal appraisal education?
Not all gemologist are appraisers. The International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and the American Society of Appraisers(ASA) offer the most advanced appraisal education.

3. Are you experienced with what I want appraised?
Antique jewelry, large diamonds and colored stones require special knowledge. Your appraisal may require special knowledge too.

4. Do you know how to find the type of value I need?
An insurance appraisal is not valid for Federal tax purposes or resale. An appraiser has to know what value you need and how to research it.

5. What professional organizations do you belong to?
Professional organizations require their members to follow appraisal standards and a code of ethics. You should too.

She is an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers.

Nina is a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property, the International Society of Appraisers' highest designation.

She earned her Graduate Gemologist in Residence diploma from the Gemological Institute of America in 1984 and is an Accredited Senior Gemologist Member of the Accredited Gemologist Association.
